It’s hard to believe that just a 90 minute drive from the bustling city of skyscrapers, lies the quiet, mountain retreat of Hatta, Dubai. Nestled at the bottom of the Hajar Mountains, Hatta is a popular weekend getaway for families living in Dubai and surrounding emirates who want to get away from the busy city life for some adventure activities.

Where to stay in Hatta
– JA Hatta Fort Hotel
The JA Hatta Fort Hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Hatta. You wouldn’t think it from staying there though. The rooms, which are reminiscent of little cottages, all have their own entrance from outside. They are larger than your average hotel room with beautiful modern décor and a balcony view of the mountains.
On arrival to my room, I found a personalized handwritten card from the manager laying on the bed, which I thought was a lovely touch.
The staff were professional and friendly and were able to cater to my gluten free needs as necessary.
Just walking around the hotel grounds is a treat in itself, surrounded by nature and stunning mountain views.
The hotel also has an adventure centre, but more on that later!

– Visit Hatta Heritage Village
For some local Emirati culture, Hatta Heritage Village is a must see. The village sets the scene of life in Dubai during ancient times.
Take a stroll around the village of restored buildings, the small museum and Hatta Fort.
They say the best things in life are free, and it’s true! The locals are just proud to show their Heritage Village to you, so there is no charge to visit.
– Kayak at Hatta Dam
I’m a sucker for anything water activity related so I couldn’t wait to get out on Hatta Dam for some kayaking at sunset. You can spend hours just sitting out on the water, relaxing to the sound of nature (and I did!).
If kayaking isn’t for you, can can also rent a donut boat, pedal boats, water bikes or you can rent your own boat with tour driver while you chill out on the dam.

Get lost in the lifesize maze full of trap doors, mirrors and spiders webs. You’ll have to crack the code to get out so bring your A-game!
