While New York may be the city that never sleeps, Dubai’s nightlife is also bustling with energy and entertainment. The lights, the music, the atmosphere – it’s a match for NYC’s bright lights and busy streets.

Whether you’re a tourist or a resident, Dubai offers a minefield of options for anyone looking to have some fun in the evenings.

Having lived in the Middle East for almost 8 years, I’ve tried and tested each of these fun things to do in Dubai at night.

Theatre nights at Dubai Opera, dune bashing in the desert, outdoor movie nights at the beach – I guarantee you’ll find entertainment at night in Dubai.

Some are things I’d do over and over again, but each one of these things to do at night in Dubai should definitely be experienced once.

1) Visit the Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa lit up at night

No trip to Dubai is complete without visiting the iconic Burj Khalifa. It’s a must-do activity both during the day and at night, but there’s something extra special about seeing the city lights from 125 floors high at night.

If you want to make an evening out of it, you can even book dinner at the Burj Club on 124th floor and enjoy a yummy meal while taking in the stunning views.

After you’ve seen the views from the top of the world’s tallest building, head down to take in this incredible structure from the bottom. At night, there are various light shows that take place on the Burj Khalifa, making it a really cool experience.

Dubai Fountains at night with dhow boat on Burj Lake

Just underneath the Burj Khalifa are the Dubai Fountains. Each night from 6pm, every 30 minutes, they hold a water, light and music show. Best thing about this is that it’s completely free to watch!

The 900ft long fountains shoot water up to 500ft in the air, making it the world’s largest choreographed fountain system.

There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes surrounding the fountains where you can grab a bite to eat while  watching the spectacular show.

Some of the best spots to watch the fountain show are:

  • Souk Al Bahar
  • Burj Park
  • Burj Lake – dhow boats offer rides on the lake during fountain show times.
  • Dubai Mall waterfront promenade

You’ll be driven out to the Arabian desert in the afternoon where you can experience dune bashing, sandboarding, quad biking, and more.

As the sun sets over the endless sand dunes, you’ll make your way to a traditional Bedouin camp for dinner under the stars. Here you’ll be treated to a delicious BBQ dinner, shisha (traditional Arab water pipe), and belly dancing performances.
